Nick Hancott, from Hazelbrook Bowling Club, has won the NSW President’s Reserve Singles Championship.
Representing his club and Zone 5, Hancott, along with champions from the 16 bowling zones across the state, met at Ettalong Bowling Club for the two day championship in October.

On day one Hancott won the first of his games 31-23, against Rob O’Rourke of Zone 16 and followed this up by winning his quarter final match with the same score against Ron Bonat of Zone 8. In his semi-final against Tom McDonald of Zone 10 scores were a little closer, 31-26.

In the final he met a wily older player, David Marshall of Zone 9, who was intent on making the match a game of tactics. However Hancott was up to the challenge. He led from the outset and only faulted once on the 13th end where he gave away fourshots which allowed Marshall to lead for the one and only time in the match 12 to 11. From that point he controlled the match to win 31-23. After the match he acknowledged that all players in the championship were deserving of their place and all games were fiercely contested in a professional spirit.
Upon returning to his club, a large group of his bowling mates were there to congratulate and toast his success.
Hancott is the greenkeeper at Springwood Sports Club and its bowling fraternity has also expressed their congratulations on a wonderful win, one that is a first for any Zone 5 bowler in the 22 years that the championships has been held.
This is not thefirst ofHancott’s high level accomplishments. In May 2015he teamed with Mick Woods to win the NSW Greenkeepers’ Pairs Championship. As well as his bowling success he has been a leading run scorer for the Hazelbrook Cricket Team.
