The NSW duo tookhome the coveted ‘Melbourne Cup’of campdrafting, at the Warwick Rodeo and Campdraft today.
“This is the pinnacleof my campdrafting career and I can tick it off the bucket list now,”Lloyd said.
Lloyd went to into the final round on topthe ‘leader board’ with a combined score from the first two rounds of 180 points.
His four closest rivals were Berry Shann, Karl Burton, Terry Hall and Bradley Buttsworth, all sitting on 176 points.
“I was four points ahead, but I left nothing to chance,” he said.
“The steers in this event, donated by Mac and Gayle Shann, Lamont Droughtmaster Stud, Clermont, and fed by the nearby Freestone Feedlot, were tremendous,” he said.
Lloyd has been competing in the Warwick Gold Cup for 30 years, andhad nothing but praise for his mount.
“He is a resilient stallion who has produced many winners,including Roxby Park Kambalawho was the supreme led Australian Stock Horse at the MelbourneRoyal Show,” he said
“I have made a few Gold Cup finals before, and placed second previously, but this win takes it all.”
Lloyd bred Mallanganee Sampson, and hisdam, Mallanganee Julie, has won26 open draft winners.
Ason of the mighty Romeo, Mallanganee Sampson,represents the fourth generation of Lloyd and his wife Mary’s, Mallanganee Australian Stock bloodlines.

Sitting in second spot was Clermont district horseman, Berry Shann finishing with 264 points.
