Carlton CEO Greg Swann.CARLTON chief executive Greg Swann said yesterday that the Blues hope to post a profit of $2 million or more this season as they look to take advantage of their on-field success. The Blues have debts of about $6.4 million but could eradicate this within three years as part of their blueprint, a strategic plan released last year that includes aspirations to have the best-resourced football department, a healthy balance sheet and deliver two flags by the end of 2015. They had a profit of $742,401 last year but an unbeaten start to the new season, catapulting the club into equal flag favouritism, has meant merchandise and corporate sales are up and should eventually result in a strong balance sheet. ''The year before we had done that. I would like to think we could head up to those numbers,'' Swann said of climbing back into the $2 million profit region. ''Things are going well. We had 43,500 members last year. We want to go through 50,000.'' Swann said there was a chance the debt could be repaid earlier if support remained strong. The Blues have 42,300 members, up 3000 from this time last year, and are set to benefit soon from more revenue from poker machines. The Blues have also benefited from arguably having the best fixture in terms of television exposure. They have begun the season with three stand-alone, prime-time matches against Richmond, Brisbane and Collingwood - each match attracting 1 million viewers - and have another to come against Fremantle in Perth in round five. The Blues are also on free-to-air 17 times this season, the most of any club. This story Administrator ready to work first appeared on Nanjing Night Net.
